In Buddhism ‘Enso’ is the calming practise of drawing a circle in one or two strokes and represents the moment when the mind in free to let the body create (I think we could all do with some of that!). The circle is ideally drawn in one fluid stroke using the tools of Japanese calligraphy; applying ink to ‘washi’ (thin Japanese paper). The finished product is unique to the person highlighting their state of mind as the creator in one brief moment in time. It totally can’t be changed! Enso is practised as often as once a day and is part of Hitsuzendo “the way of the brush) leading the individual on a journey of self-realisation whilst symbolising enlightenment, strength, elegance, the universe and Mu (the void).
We tried this for a week and these were our results!
